Evangelism in Tribal India: The Role of Pastors in Cultural Transformation and Soul Harvesting

R. Trivedi [6]

Abstract: At the core of this expansion are individuals who dedicate their lives to ministry - pastors. These spiritual leaders play a pivotal role in spreading the teachings of Jesus Christ and fostering communities of faith in tribal regions, not only in India but Africa, Nigeria, Sri Lanka etc. Therefore, effective pastoral training is essential to shape missionary practices. For equipping these leaders to fulfil their calling, adapt to cultural challenges, and engage in meaningful outreach. In an era of globalization, the intersection of faith and culture presents both opportunities and challenges for Christian ministry in tribal villages for evangelism. These communities, often rich in tradition and heritage, face changes in their socio-economic contexts, leading to a quest for spiritual growth that is both culturally sensitive and theologically sound. Christian pastors play a crucial and essential role in this spiritual formation process, bridging the gap between the gospel message and indigenous tribal religious practices and evangelism of tribals. The exploitation of tribal communities in the name of Christianity or ?own indigenous identity? creates complex narratives of tribal culture and among community. Pastors are establishing powerful relationship between Christian organisation and indigenous community. This paper explores the critical role of Christian pastors in evangelizing tribal communities in India, focusing on the challenges and methodologies involved in soul harvesting. It examines how pastoral training and biblical foundations shape missionary practices and the cultural implications of evangelism in these regions. The methodology of the paper is to connect the soul harvesting with theological analysis of biblical texts. The study delves into the complex relationship between Christianity and indigenous tribal cultures, highlighting the ethical considerations and potential consequences of deculturation and cultural transformation.
