Abstract: A new series of mixed complexes were synthesized as [ [Mn2 (phen)2 (L)] +2, [Co (phen)2 (L) (H2O)2]+2, [Ni2 (phen)2 (L)]+2, [Cu2 (phen)2 (L)]+2and [Hg2 (phen)2 (L) (H2O)2]+2by the template reaction between H2L= [2E, 2'E)-2, 2'- (biphenyl-4, 4'-diylbis (azan-1-yl-1-ylidene))diacetic acid], phen = 1, 10-phenanthroline, and M (II) =Mn (II), Co (II), Cu (II), Ni (II) and Hg (II)chloride salts. The structures of the compounds elucidated by IR, elemental analysis, and 13C and 1H NMR (only ligand (H2L)). The complexes have 12electrolyte behavior in ethanol solution. The mixed complexes, their free ligands alongside the corresponding metal salts were screened against selected four bacterial isolates as (Staphylococcus aureus), (Escherichia coli), Bacillus and (Pseudomonas). All the mixed complexes showed enhanced antibacterial activities compared to their free ligands.
