Effects of Greenhouse and Stocking Density on Growth and Survival of African Catfish (Clarias gariepinus Burchell 1822) Fry Reared in High Altitude Kenya Regions

Abstract: Production of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) under culture in high altitude areas has faced challenges due to slow growth related to low temperatures. This study was therefore designed to test the hypothesis of better growth of African catfish raised in greenhouses for improved production in high altitude areas. A 2 x 3 factorial design with 2 greenhouse treatments and three stocking densities of 5 fry/L, 10 fry/L, 20 fry /L as factors was used. The interaction between stocking density and greenhouse treatments significantly (p < 0.05) influenced growth performance and the percentage survival.
