Grit as Related to Resilience during COVID-19 among Unemployed in India

Abstract: Resilience is the process that leads to thriving during adversity. Grit is the passion and perseverance for long-term goals. During COVID-19, people face various threats and unemployment which adversely affect their well-being. The present study explored the relationship between grit and resilience during COVID-19 among the unemployed. The data were collected from 300 participants who were unemployed through various social media platform. Connor-Davidson's resilience short form and short grit scale were used to measure resilience and grit respectively. For the analysis, the Pearson product-moment correlation and stepwise regression were used. The results indicated a significant positive relationship between grit and resilience. The persistent effort dimension of grit was found to have a higher correlation with resilience. Grit and persistent effort were found to be significant predictors of resilience. It is therefore concluded that those higher level of grit, enhances ones capability to deal with stress during the pandemic.
