A Clinical Study on Prevalence of Presbyopia with Refractive Error among the Patients Attending O.P.D. in a Tertiary Care Hospital in Assam

Abstract: OBJECTIVES- To study the Prevalence of Refractive Error with Presbyopia among the patients attending O. P. D. (Out Patient Department) of Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh for ophthalmic problems. MATERIALS & METHODS- This is a prospective study conducted on 1, 000 patients attending O. P. D. in Assam Medical College & Hospital, Dibrugarh, Assam. The study was done from October, 2016 to April, 2017. The study was conducted based on the Dark-Room Procedure including Retinoscopy, Macular Function Test, Visual Acuity with Snellens View Box & Snellens Near Vision Chart & Autorefraction. RESULTS- A total numbers of 1, 000 patients were enrolled in the study, out of which 30 (5.50 %) were having myopia, 199 (33.50 %) having hypermetropia and 240 (42.70 %) were found to have astigmatism i. e. Presbyopia with Refractive Error. The incidence of refractive error was found to be high (58.27 %) among 40 49 years of age group and in female (57.40 %). Most common incidence increases with the increasing age group. CONCLUSION-The prevalence of Presbyopia with Refractive Error is more in females than in males attending to the O. P. D. based study.
