Abstract: Characterization and Antimicrobial Study of Nickel Nanoparticles Synthesized from Dioscorea (Elephant Yam) by Green Route Dr. S. Mary Helen and M. Hebzi Emalda Rani Annai Velankanni College Tholayavattam-629 157, Kanyakumari District Tamil Nadu, India. In the present study Nickel nanoparticles (NiNPs) are synthesized by green technique using aqueous tuber extract of Dioscorea (elephant yam) as a reducing, stabilizing and capping agent. Nickel nanoparticles were confirmed by UV-Visible studies. The synthesized NiNPs are characterized by UV-VIS, XRD, and SEM with EDAX. The EDAX pattern shows the 2.33 weight percentage of Nickel present in the synthesized sample and XRD studies shows that the particles are mostly crystalline in nature. Further these biologically synthesized nanoparticles were found to be highly toxic against different multi drug resistant bacteria pathogens. This is the first report on the synthesis of NiNPs from tuber extract of Dioscorea was used for synthesis of NiNPs and its antimicrobial studies. Dioscorea, NiNPs, UV-VIS, XRD, SEM with EDAX and antimicrobial activity.
