A Non-Feminist Reading of The Yellow Wallpaper?
NI Lin-na
Abstract: In The Yellow Wallpaper, Gilman depicts the process of mental deterioration of a young mother who suffers from postpartum depression based on the author's own experience. This paper will try to question the traditional feminist interpretation of the story. By providing the relevant background information about the author, collecting hints in the story, and analyzing the medical situation in the 19th century, the story can be regarded, from the present perspective, as a non-feminist work.
