Abstract: Assessing school children ICT literacy skill remains a problem. Children are different from adults in the way they use technology. For that reason, commonly used evaluation methods such as questionnaires and observations are not able to potray the competency level acquired by these children. This paper explores the possibility of using suitable tracing tool for capturing computing activities of school children. In this pilot study, nine school children who are e-book users have been selected. The log file produced by the tracing tool was then used to identify the patterns of ICT competency level among these e-book users. The results show the benefit of using the RateSkill as a computerized and automated ICT literacy skill assessment tool.
