Building Vulnerability Assessment for Hazards Management: A Case Study of a Hilly Town in North East India

Abstract: Vulnerability from the perspective of disaster management means assessing the threats from potential hazards to the population and to infrastructure. A vulnerability assessment is the process of identifying, quantifying, and prioritizing (or ranking) the vulnerabilities in a system. It may be conducted in the political, social, economic or environmental fields. The elements mention above for analyzing or accessing vulnerability is taken as the parameters for conducting the study on Building Vulnerability Assessment for Hazards Management A Case Study of a hilly town in North East India. The present study attempts to make an analysis of vulnerability of types of houses and the building structures of (one locality) residential area, by studying the natural features of the area of study using modern technologies such as Remote Sensing and G. I. S thus checking the level of preparation of a locality towards natural hazards.
