The Effect of Substrate Material on Microstrip Patch Antenna

Yagnesh R. Patel, Anil K. Sisodia, Nimesh M. Prabhakar

Abstract: This paper shows that how antenna performance like Gain, return loss and beam width changes accordingly on varying substrate material. Various substrates like RT_duroid, Rogers, Epoxy and FR4 are used to achieve better gain and beam width. In addition effect of substrate thickness is also analyzed. If the designer has a clear conception about the effect of changing substrate material on the performance of the antenna, it will be easier to design an antenna. The designed inset feed rectangular microstrip patch antenna operates at 3 GHz.
