LT COL DR Bidhan Roy
Abstract: Background: Diagnosing ovarian malignancy in an abdomino-pelvic mass possesses great clinical dilemma at times. Risk of malignancy index using Jacobs score helps in diagnosing ovarian malignancy. Objectives: Screen those patients who are at high risk so that they are operated by gynaecological oncologist at the specialized centre; thus ensuring optimal primary surgery and better prognosis. Another objective was that the low risk groups can be carried by Laparoscopic procedures. Methods: Hundred patients suspected of ovarian tumours were evaluated using CA 125, ultrasonography of pelvis and abdomen and the age of presentation. Jacobs score thus calculated leading to staging laparotomy when the score>200 and laparoscopic procedures when the score35 IU/mL was found in 44 malignant cases and 12 benign cases; whereas CA 125 level 3 was noticed in 46 malignant cases and 28 benign cases and ultrasonographic score200 was seen in 44 malignant cases and 3 benign cases; whereas RMI score
