Peripartum Cardiomyopathy: Outcome Analysis in Tertiary Health Care Centre

Abstract: Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is one of the rare causes of cardiomyopathy of unknown aetiology. It is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Onset is commonly in a previously healthy woman between last month of pregnancy and up to five months of postpartum. They may present with signs and symptoms of heart failure. Most of the cases improve or resolve completely. In significant number of patients, the disease progresses to severe heart failure and even sudden cardiac death. The aim of this case series is to create awareness among health professionals regarding the possibility of peripartum cardiomyopathy in a breathless pregnant woman in peripartum period.
