Clinico - Epidemiological Study on Anogenital Warts in Males Attending STD Clinic in a Tertiary Care Centre

Abstract: INTRODUCTION: Anogenital warts are a common sexually transmitted disease caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). [1]] HPV 6, 11 account for majority of anogenital warts [1] AIMS & OBJECTIVES To study the clinico-epidemiological features of anogenital warts in males attending STD clinic in a tertiary care centre. MATERIALS AND METHODS A Retrospective Observational study was done from June 2017- May 2018 in 76 Males with anogenital wart. Data documented were history, general & local examination, clinical diagnosis, Blood VDRL and ELISA- HIV antibody test results. RESULTS Most commonly affected age group was 20 to 29 years. Among the 32 partners of married men, 16 had anogenital warts, whereas 14 among 20 partners of unmarried men. Heterosexual behavior was present in 48, homosexual in 21 & 7 were bisexual.68 males had unprotected sex, whereas 8 had protected sex. Maximum number of warts in a single patient was 16 (perianal region). Commonest morphological type was Acuminate-33, followed by papular- 28, keratotic-10. HIV (10) was the commonest associated STD. CONCLUSION This study highlights the increasing prevalence of anogenital warts among males with STDs. Increase in the incidence of perianal warts in younger age group, reflects the changing sexual behaviour pattern.
