Optimal Packet Loss Rate Based Vertical Handoff Algorithm for Wireless Heterogeneous Networks

S. Shibu

Abstract: The Vertical handover algorithm allows the mobile wireless device to roam freely across Wireless Local Area Network and the cellular network. The estimation of received signal strength may not always indicate the better quality of service. Hence packet loss rate is estimated to determine the occurrence of delay, jitter and contention problems and provide efficient and continuous transmission. The selection of best network having lowest packet loss rate during transmission helps us to improve the performance and also reduces network traffic and provides load balancing capability. The Vertical handoff algorithm is used to measure the packet loss and provides analytical framework for measuring the system performance. And hence optical relay assignment algorithm used to improve the network efficiency. The obtained results shows that loss, delay can be minimized and throughput can be increased.
