Evaluation of Cardiac Status of Patients with Haemoglobinopathies by 2D Echocardiography with Specific Reference to Pulmonary Hypertension

Abstract: Introduction: Haemoglobinopathies are the disorders affecting the structure, function, or production of haemoglobin. Hereditary haemoglobin disorders including mainly beta thalassemia and sickle cell anaemia represents most common monogenic disorders in population.1Different forms may present as ineffective erythropoiesis, haemolytic anaemia, erythrocytosis, cyanosis, or vasoocclusive stigmata.2 Material and methods: The study comprised of all diagnosed cases of haemoglobinopathies admitted in Medicine Department tertiary care centre between December 2017 to October 2019. The researcher has adopted prospective cross sectional design to find correlation of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) with patient of haemoglobinopathies. Conclusion: This study highlights importance of screening for pulmonary hypertension in hemoglobinopathies to detect development of pulmonary hypertension at the earliest.
