Abstract: Pregnancy is a period of increased metabolic needs, due to physiological changes of the pregnant woman and needs of the fetus. Vitamins, minerals and trace elements, commonly known as micronutrients (calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium, vitamins B9 and C), are major determinants of the health of the pregnant woman and her fetus.
