In-Vitro Antioxidant Activity of Cassine albens
Manish Bansilal Gagarani, Prakash Hiraman Patil
Abstract: Cassinealbens (Celastraceae), often known as Bhutekes among tribal groups in north Maharashtra who practiced this plant in there indigenous medicinal system for a range of illnesses, including some psychosomatic conditions, in this study the bioactive chloroform and ethyl acetate fractions of methanolic extract of Casinealbens leaves was evaluated for in vitro antioxidant study using DPPH, ABTS and Total antioxidant capacity. Ethyl acetate fractions was shows more powerful inhibition of DPPH (IC50=70.15) and ABTS (IC50=69.08). Chloroform fraction shows lower inhibition capacity. Total antioxidant capacity of the Chloroform and Ethyl Acetate Fraction, expressed as the number of gram equivalents of ascorbic acid. Values are expressed in mean ? SD (n=3), the Total Antioxidant Capacity of Chloroform and Ethyl Acetate Extract was Found to be 129.25?2.79 (?g/ml) and 100?13.51 (?g/ml) respectively. Thus in the present study, we can conclude that chloroform and ethyl acetate fractions of Cassinealbens possesses antioxidant capability.
