Abstract: Aim: To assess the spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) characteristics in open-angle glaucoma with diabetes mellitus in accordance with glycaemic control state. Methodology: Comprehensive eye examinations, visual field tests, and SDOCT imaging were all performed on the participants (Cirrus HD-OCT). In order to compare diabetic glaucomatous eyes with diabetic non-glaucomatous eyes, the link between glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA1c) and OCT measurements was examined. Results: Analysis was performed on 69 non-glaucomatous and 87 glaucomatous eyes in the nondiabetic group, and on 72 non-glaucomatous and 56 glaucomatous eyes in the diabetic group. Average, inferonasal, inferior, and inferotemporal ganglion cell?inner plexiform layer (GCIPL) thicknesses were positively correlated with HbA1c in diabetic non-glaucomatous eyes (P = 0.041, 0.037, 0.024, and 0.012, respectively). Conclusions: In this study, optic nerve head parameters had a superior ability to discriminate glaucoma in diabetic eyes with poor glycaemic control. Conversely, the ability to discriminate glaucoma using macular parameters tended to be lower for diabetic eyes with inadequate glycaemic control.
