A Literature Review to Find the Effectiveness of Suboccipital Myofascial Release Technique in Reducing Cervicogenic Headache

Abstract: Aim: To investigate the effect of suboccipital myofascial release in reducing cervicogenic headache. Methods: A comprehensive search on PubMed, MEDLINE, Cochrane, Google Scholar, CINAHL, and clinical keys database using keywords cranial base release, myofascial release, secondary headache, suboccipital release, cervicogenic headache, physiotherapy by using Boolean AND. Physiotherapy Evidence - Based Database was utilized for quality assessment. Results: 8 studies were included.6 RCT, 2 comparative studies. The result of this review provides evidence that suboccipital myofascial release has a significant positive effect on the improvement of cervicogenic headaches. Conclusion: The result of this review provides evidence that the suboccipital myofascial release technique is helpful in releasing cervicogenic headaches. Implications: We can optimize recovery by using suboccipital myofascial release in computer professionals having cervicogenic headaches due to wrong posture or forward head posture, working for more than 8 hours.
