Transformation through Suffering to Liberation: The Journey of Patachara
Bhalerao G. A. M.
Abstract: The present research paper highlights universal suffering and liberation of the character Patachara. Patachara (Rupvati), the rich girl marries her servant and had two babies. She lives utterly poor life. The greatest tragedy occurs in her life as loses all his family members in a day! Consequently, she loses her sense of body and self. She wanders naked. She meets Buddha and comes back to her senses. She becomes familiar with her own mind. Hence understands the real causes of suffering i. e. attachment to the self. So she sees the things as they are! Means, realizes the universal truth of Anicca (impermanence) Anatta (Insubstantiality), and Dukkhata (Suffering). The traditional story of her transformation seems quite illogical and unscientific. Probably her transformation was due to compassionate care of Bhikkuni Sangha and of course diligent practice of the Noble Eightfold Path.
