Unveiling Complex Traffic Patterns: Applying Chaos Theory to Understand Non-Linear Dynamics in Congestion

Ashutosh Sundresh

Abstract: This article explores the application of chaos theory principles to unravel intricate and non-linear dynamics within traffic congestion. The study investigates the underlying deterministic nature of chaotic behaviour exhibited by traffic systems, where minor changes in initial conditions can lead to unpredictable patterns. By adopting an exploratory research design, the research employs synthetic data and chaos theory modelling to delve into the complex interplay between traffic volume, speed, and congestion. The findings emphasize the sensitivity of congestion to initial conditions and highlight non-linear interactions, shedding light on the challenges and opportunities in traffic management and city planning. This approach provides a fresh perspective on understanding the chaotic nature of traffic congestion dynamics and offers insights into enhancing transportation systems.
