Abstract: Gestational Diabetes Mellitus and Glucose intolerance result when pancreatic beta cell function is not able to compensate the degree of insulin resistance in pregnancy. Pregnancy induces progressive changes in maternal carbohydrate metabolism. When this compensation is inadequate gestational diabetes develops.
