Future Trends in Toll Operations: A Technological Perspective
Pankaj Lembhe
Abstract: This research project aims to explore future developments and enhancements in toll operations, with a specific focus on technological advancements. The study further seeks to identify potential tie-ins between tolling systems and other Intelligent Transportation Systems deployments, with the ulti- mate goal of recommending vehicle identification/registration systems that can integrate the tolling function with other transportation system management functions. Based on the re- search findings and economic evaluations, it is clear that ITS- based toll collection has significant benefits such as relieving congestion, reducing noise and pollution, improving the city?s landscape, and reducing operating costs.
